About

Inspired by the teachings of Christ,

&

Founded on the convictions that strengthening those who help the needy lifts society and strengthening those who help all helps all,

Made 4 Helpers exists to strengthen the helpers.

These are our current programs…

The Mall

Here are some pictures of people I look up. They are:

  • Justin Wren with some of the Pygmy people he helped liberate. When he saw them living in slavery, with no land, no clean water, and no medicine, he took action and helped them. Now, they are not only free, but also have land, clean water, and have been taught to sustainable farming. Watch Video

  • Maggie Doyne with some of the children she adopted. When she saw children spending their days breaking rocks, she took action and helped them. It began with a helping one girl with all she had. Now, it has blossomed into an orphanage, school and women’s center. Watch Video

  • Becca Stevens with women she’s helped lift up. When she knew people trying to escape the streets, she took action and helped them. Thistle Farms was born as a way to make this help sustainable. Now, they offer housing, meals, medicines, training, and a way out for many stuck on the streets.

In my eyes, these are real-life heroes. They love with their actions. Their organizations exist to help, they give freely to the needy, they benefit the lives they touch, and they do not merely talk - they do. If we’re going to put people’s faces on cereal boxes and magazine-covers, I think it should be people like these.

They also have something else in common - they each have online stores. Products in those stores raise awareness for their cause and funding for their work. Their profits go towards things like providing clean water, enabling impoverished women to provide for their families, and offering a different path for women who live on the streets.

I’m proud to wear my ‘I heart Kopila’ and ‘Fight for the Forgotten’ shirts. I’m proud to give Thistle Farms’ goods to friends as gifts. I’m proud of these things, not because I think I’m special, but because I think they’re special. I recommend buying their products because, by doing so, you share in their work.

I stumbled on to these stores. And, when I looked for more, I had a really hard time finding them. It seemed like it should be easier. So, I’ve searched in what ways I know how and collected as many as I could find.

That’s what the Made 4 Helpers mall is, it’s a collection of stores such as these.

I like these stores, I hope you like them too.

I’m still hoping to add more stores. If you have one to recommend, I’d love to hear from you.

Gifts for Helpers

Here are some others I look up to:

  • Elissa Montanti with some of the children she has enabled to receive healthcare. She actively searches for children who have suffered from bombs, burns, and detestable acts and cares for them. Watch Video

  • Dr. Jim Withers caring for someone whom the healthcare system would not. He has spent decades caring for the homeless and advancing the street medicine movement. Watch Video

  • Dr. Chandrasekhar Sankurathri with a room full of people who received surgery and see better because of him. His foundations provide vision, education, and disaster relief.

These also are real-life heroes.

Unlike the first group, none of these run online shops. To be honest, I don’t want them to start shops - it seems better they remain focused on their important areas of expertise.

However, the world still needs t-shirts, notebooks, and other goods. And, in the same way I’m proud to buy and wear my ‘I heart Kopila’ t-shirt, I would absolutely be proud to buy and wear an ‘I heart Street Medicine Institute’ or an ‘I heart GMRF’ t-shirt.

So, I created those shirts. All the proceeds go to the Street Medicine Institute. (Currently, I’ve got 50 of each of them. If you’d like to help raise awareness for their causes and money for their work, you can buy one.)

Gifts for Helpers is collection of such gifts.

Take a look to see what’s available now and what’s available for pre-order.

I’m hoping to add more high-quality products. If you’d like to help create some, I’d love to hear from you.

Hands for Helpers

This is a place for two things.

  1. It is a place where the helpers can post specific requests for help - not for money, for ability.

(In some cases, a non-profit might have a specific need for a dentist or a lawyer or a handyman. Such requests are posted and those who have the ability and the heart may fulfill them.

In other cases, methods for giving have already been established. Some require technical experience, others do not. Can you see? Do you have a computer? Or, do you have healthy blood? Do you have niche knowledge? Are you good at coding? There are already established procedures to put such abilities to use.)

  2. It is also a place for those with ability to post the skills they are willing to share.

(Here any ability which might be useful may be offered. A web-designer, an electrician, or a hairdresser may all choose to offer their abilities and state who they will offer them to.)

The ‘Made 4 Helpers’ Index

Made 4 Helpers accepts no money from this website or any products it sells.

However, we do sell products and some proceeds are earned.

Sometimes, these proceeds are directed toward one specific charity - as is the case with the Street Medicine Institute shirt.

Other times, these proceeds are directed towards a group of charities - as is the case with the cookbook or the artbook - led by _____. In these cases also, the charities receiving the proceeds and the percentage they received are noted.

However, there may also be instances when no specific charity is noted. In these instances, the proceeds are distributed evenly to our index of charities.

The 2021 index consists of those groups which helped inspire this effort. They are:

  • e-NABLE

  • NRC

  • GMRF

  • Thistle Farms

  • Fight for the Forgotten & Water4

  • Blink Now

  • All three foundations started by Dr. Chandra

  • Street Medicine Institute

  • The Oregon Public House

  • TWLOHA

  • The Gideons

  • Linux & Wikipedia

To learn why these organizations were chosen, please click here.

I hope to expand and adjust the index in 2022. I’m searching groups that diligently practice love. Please feel free to nominate any organization you believe should be included.
